Homemade Breastfeeding Biscuits

breastfeeding biscuits to help increase breastmilk supply

Breastfeeding biscuits are gaining so much attention at the moment. It seems everyone is indulging in Breastfeeding biscuits following the birth of their baby to assist increasing their milk supply and to help their milking coming in. So what is it that makes breastfeeding biscuits different to other biscuits and why can they assist in boosting your milk supply? It's the addition of Galactogoues (milk boosting ingredients) to the biscuit recipe that add the potential to assist in building milk sipply. And whilst there are great Breastfeeding biscuits available commercially (like the amazing range from Franjo's Kitchen available here), there is always a place for homemade. Receiving homemade gifts on the birth of your baby is always so special, but homemade gifts made especially for Mum, to assist her journey is extra special. That's why I'm sharing my favourite recipe for homemade Breastfeeding Biscuits.

I perfected these homemade breastfeeding biscuits recipes in the lead up to birth of my first baby. I needed to adapt other recipes I had found to accomodate my gluten free diet, and I was surprised just how good they tasted. They remind me a bit of Anzac biscuits and are so moreish. Whilst Breastfeeding biscuits may help increase breastmilk supply they may not work for everyone, and they certainly work best when used in conjunction with other milk boosting techniques (see post on ‘How to increase breastmilk supply’ here). I’ve included a normal and a Gluten free (Coeliac friendly) version of the recipe as well on adaptations to make the recipes vegan. Enjoy and let me know your feedback. Did Breastfeeding biscuits help you increase your breastmilk supply or were they just a nice indulgence?

The galactogogues (milk boosting ingredients) in this recipe are predominately the Ginger, Fenugreek, Flaxseed’s, Baker’s Yeast and Oats. But also love this recipe for the addition of high fibre, omega 3 rich plant based ingredients (like Chia seeds, flaxseeds and LSA/Almond meal) that really boost the nutritional quality of this recipe. These biscuits are also a good energy source to fuel your body and the extra energy requirements it needs to make breastmilk.
